A happy and festive evening near Mysuru Palace turned into a tragic scene on Thursday night after a gas cylinder explosion near the palace gate. One person died, and four others were seriously injured in the blast.
The incident happened around 8:45 PM, when many tourists and local people were present near the palace for the winter flower show and Christmas celebrations.
What Caused the Explosion Near Mysore Palace?
Police said the blast happened due to a helium gas cylinder used by a balloon seller. The cylinder suddenly exploded, creating a loud sound that was heard from far away.
The explosion damaged nearby vehicles and caused panic among the crowd.
“We thought it was a bomb at first. Then we saw smoke and injured people on the road,” said a shopkeeper near the palace.
Injured Taken to Hospital
Police and emergency teams reached the spot quickly and moved the injured to K.R. Hospital, Mysuru.
Officials confirmed:
- One person died: A male balloon vendor died on the spot.
- Four people injured: Two men and two women were badly hurt.
- Two of them are in critical condition with serious burn injuries.
Doctors said surgeries are being done, and the injured are under treatment.
Blast Near Mysore Palace Investigation Started
Senior police officers and forensic teams visited the area. Police believe the explosion may have happened due to:
- Over-pressurised gas cylinder
- Poor quality or illegal equipment
Authorities are checking whether the vendor had permission to use such a cylinder in a busy public place.
Security Increased Near Mysuru Palace
After the incident:
- Use of gas cylinders is banned within 500 metres of Mysuru Palace
- Police security has been increased
- Safety checks for street vendors have started
The palace is open to visitors, but with tighter security.
